This extensive renovation transformed a modest bungalow into a green home of the future. Featured on the TV show Renovation Nation on Planet Green, the Decatur Tour of Homes, in several local articles, and a Decatur Design Award recipient this home is a leading example of environmental responsibility and energy efficiency. The list of green features is immense and includes a ground source heat pump (geothermal), SIP panel construction, spray foam insulation, 3 integral gravity fed rain cisterns, energy recovery ventilator, responsible material selection, etc. The Prairie style inspiration allowed for passive solar/ventilation and natural daylight optimization while respectfully introducing an historic Modernist style rooted in the Arts & Crafts movement to a neighborhood of single story Arts & Crafts bungalows. This project won a City of Decatur Design Award for Sustainability. For a detailed account of the home owner’s experience visit www.601third.com
