Before

This extensive renovation completely transforms the look of the original structure. The majority of the houses on the main access road leading into the Oakhurst Village were built during the lean times leading up to and just after WWII. Many are very modest and some are not the best examples of historic homes like the more numerous arts and crafts bungalows built during the 1910-1920s. This house was in need of expansion and a major face lift. The open floor plan, large screen room, and decks make this transformation’s interior and exterior seem to bleed together. The stair is enclosed with a pair of doors on the main level used to control natural ventilation and heat. At the top of the stairs are generous operable windows that provide light and ventilation to the stair and when the doors are open, to the whole house. The stair enclosure has clerestory windows facing the Living Room, providing additional natural light in the center of the house. The new garage has a studio with a full bath and kitchenette. It also creates a courtyard space with the main house.
