Arlene Dean

2614 sf.

This new home is located in an inner city neighborhood with mostly Arts & Crafts Bungalows from the 1910s-1930s. This is one of Arlene Dean’s many one of a kind speculative houses. Taking cues from traditional American, Asian, and Modern styles, this home utilizes an open, modern layout with an aesthetic that works with the predominant styles of the neighborhood. Modern city living meets the charm of the past. This speculative house represents a new attitude for the American consumer after the Housing Crash. Now the size of the home is being reduced to match the growing concerns of the bottom line cost as well as the anticipation of escalating energy expenses in the future. The number of desired bedrooms and baths is still the same, it’s the scale of the spaces that tend to be reduced.
