Before
This project was an addition to an existing residence. The original home is a wonderful example of the Arts & Crafts Bungalows in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur. Like most in-town lots, this one was very narrow. The family needed a garage and two more bedrooms. The solution was to extrude the existing house form to create the new attached garage with the bedrooms above. In order to preserve the appearance of the original home from street view, we disguised the second level bedrooms within the height of the original roof. The garage is separated from the first level of the house by a screened room/ breezeway and the garage door is protected by a generous covered area.
